The Racquet Club of Memphis is the only private club in the world to host a professional men's and women's indoor tournament. A men's event since 1976, the women came aboard in 2002. Players rave about the US National Indoor Tennis Championships' superb playing conditions, atmosphere and Southern hospitality that are all a part of this annual world class gathering of athletes, sponsors and fans.
"I just love this place. It's my second home," said two-time Memphis champion Sofia Arvidsson. "The fans are great and the tournament takes such good care of the players, so it makes us all feel good."
Others to have been victorious in Memphis include Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Lindsay Davenport, whose triumph in 2008 was the last of her 55 career titles.
The WTA version of this tournament will relocate to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2014.
